The Importance Of Loving Yourself: 7 Ways To Practice Self-Love

It’s so easy to fall in the trap of disliking what you look like or who you are due to the influence of the media and just society in general. We have forgotten how to love ourselves because we’re too busy wanting to be someone else. We see models on magazine covers and we immediately feel bad for not having that “perfect” body. We were all created in our own beautiful way and we need to learn to cherish and appreciate that rather than comparing ourselves to someone we will never look like no matter how hard we try.

As a kid, I struggled with self-confidence issues and I know what it feels like to look in the mirror and not be content with the reflection. Over the years, I learned to love every part of myself and I continue to practice self-appreciation each and every day. There are so many ways to love yourself and feel good about who you are, but these are my top 7 tips for giving yourself the love that you deserve.

  1. DO ONE THING YOU ENJOY EVERYDAY

That could be ANYTHING. Hitting the gym, reading and listening to music are just a few of my favorite things to do on a daily basis because it keeps me sane and makes me happy. Whatever floats your boat, do that. Trust me, you’ll start feeling good about yourself and you’ll see a difference in no time.

  1. TAKE UP A NEW HOBBY

Learning something new creates a sense of confidence and makes you feel unstoppable. Take a cooking class, learn a new language or even play a new sport and you’ll be surprised at how much happier you’ll be.

  1. BE IN YOUR OWN ENERGY

This is something I personally LOVE doing. There are times where I just want to be alone with my own thoughts and feelings. Don’t get me wrong, I love being with my friends and family but some days I just need my solitude. In order to begin loving yourself, you have to learn to be comfortable in your own space. Take yourself out on a date, pamper yourself at the spa or even just sit in your room by yourself for a little while.

  1. SAY “I LOVE YOU” TO YOURSELF AT LEAST ONCE A DAY

This sounds very silly but it is EXTREMELY effective. Stand in front of a mirror, examine yourself and then go ahead and say “I love you”. It’s such a simple exercise, but it does wonders because even though you consciously may not believe yourself at first, your subconscious will begin to believe it and let’s be real, your subconscious is the real boss here. The key is to be consistent with it because if you say it enough times, you’ll begin to feel it.

  1. SPEND TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD

Remember, energy is contagious. Being around people who are like-minded and positive will have an incredible impact. Make sure you’re surrounding yourself with people who genuinely love you and care for you.

  1. EXPRESS GRATITUDE

Be thankful for the little things, the big things and everything in between. When you’re grateful, you attract positive energy and good vibes from others which will then make you feel loved and appreciated. Thank your mom for making you breakfast, thank your boyfriend for driving you to your doctor’s appointment and thank your boss for that raise you’ve been wanting. Making others feel good and appreciated will always make you feel better in the end.

  1. ACCEPT YOURSELF, FLAWS AND ALL

This one could be a little difficult to do, but something that helps me accept myself is knowing that we are not perfect beings and never will be. Perfection does not exist, we all have flaws that we struggle with and no one is better than anyone else. We’re all different but we’re all worth something to someone, and that’s what matters most in the end.

Hi loves! My name is Yasmin Elzomor and I am a NYC based relationship + trauma coach. I began fulfilling my mission and purpose through coaching a few years ago when I ended a 4 year relationship. It was a relationship filled with hardship and trauma - I was in a very transitional and difficult point in my life where I didn't know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go. I constantly wondered why I was always attracting unhealthy men and relationships so I wanted to dive deeper into my own shadows and break this cycle I kept hitting. Shortly after ending that relationship, I realized that I wanted to help other women (and men) to step into their power and attract healthier relationships into their lives by understanding their trauma and internal worlds. I am so passionate about helping other people rise and live the life they are worthy of living, as well as holding myself accountable by doing the same and leading with integrity.

Aside from this mission, I am also a content creator + influencer. I work with many different brands that I love and I create content for them and help them grow.
