You sit on the grass at the neighborhood park surrounded by white and yellow wildflowers, wind, birds, sun and trucks on the overpass. You are struck with a gut-check reminder of the decision you can make everyday. To choose to be apart of all of it or not. To be present or aloof.
Some days you don’t have to think of the choice. The day is full of purpose, life and love, and so everything in you is excited and willing to be present. Other days the desire is to shut out the world and the feelings, facts and figures that come with it. This picture reminds you of the gifts and promise of hope that the present moment brings. You’ve chosen, however unconsciously, a gentle aloofness. Not from coldness or hate, but self-preservation. This action gave respite (yes, sometimes you need a time-out from it all!), but it was not intended to last for long.
You chose to gently move back to presence. Your present moment today was not in “doing” anything. Just “being with” was all that was needed even in the midst of pain.
You feel grateful that there is so much life and beauty. You’ll need to return to this patch of grass many times and you’re looking forward to it. ❤️
