Celebrate Self

From family gatherings to holiday shopping the month of December is always a blur. The holidays are madness and we almost always forget to check in with ourselves. So for the next five weeks Harness will be your weekly “Celebrate Self” reminder.

The best way to kick off a totally awesome holiday series is to start with Self-Love.

What exactly is self-love? Well I am glad you asked. It’s completely different for every person. Some people practice self-love by exercising or shopping. Some by using positive affirmations in the morning, others by lying in bed and watching Netflix. Today, you will practice self-love by thanking yourself for these seven things:

1. Your hands. Yes, your hands. Every day you use them to work, to eat, to exercise, to express joy. They work so hard and are often overlooked. Take a moment to sit back in your chair, take your hands off the phone or the keyboard and relax. Be thankful for all that you are capable of. For all the happiness you bring into this world with those two beautiful hands.

2. Your ability to forgive. We all have been slighted in our lives. Sometimes big mistakes happen. Sometimes small. Regardless we forgive. We can look at another person, understand they are not perfect and forgive that tiny mess they made of our heart. That is an incredible super power.

3. Your heart. Take your hand and put it to your chest. Do you feel that? Your heart beating? You are alive in this moment. Regardless of what is going on around you or in your head, your heart is still beating. Pumping blood to those big beautiful body parts of yours. So be thankful for this moment in time where you are just you……. and as real as can be.

4. Your imagination. The incredible things you think up! From the gifts you give others during the holidays to the thoughtful cards. For your ability to surprise others when they least expect it. The times you have added value at work by thinking of an easier way to do something. Your big beautiful imagination comes up with amazing things.

5. Your awareness. You are hyper aware of others and yourself. You open doors for strangers, you help out colleagues, you spend time with people you may not want to spend time with because it’s the right thing to do. You are aware of yourself and you are aware of how others may feel. And sometimes you choose to use that awareness to make someone happy at the expense of yourself. Dare I say another superpower you have?

6. Your smile. It’s infectious. When you smile — others smile. You also look absolutely beautiful when you do it. So go ahead let a big ol’ smile rip right now.

7. Your quest for knowledge. You are reading this aren’t you? You never stop learning. We need women like you. So from all of us at Harness to all of you, THANK YOU! We are inspired by your quest for knowledge and your ability to share it with others.
