Different this Time

These tears burn holes
into flesh like candle wax
on plastic bags left out
from the groceries bought
last weekend.

I wrote love messages before
but this one touched me differently.
I struggle to put words together
that would form sense out of
the mishaps of my fingertips.

I cried before but not like this.
And as the plastic bags disappear
into the abyss I am left only with those memories. Something caused me to press send.

This wasn’t a message of love.
Just a message of regrets like the tears I wasted just to burn holes in my face. Those words would have never escaped my lips.
