Eyes

Though your eyes I have not seen,
I recognize you in every passing glance.

Or am I just searching?
Oh, please let me see,
even just once.

For your face I have not seen,
yet I recognize you in every tree
that stands against the wind,
sure in its roots,
it cannot bend.
Here, you are my shade,
my shelter against the mystery dark.
How can it be that I have not seen you,
yet I know who you are?

For your eyes I have not seen,
nor your lips,
though I know they are soft
and full and warm;
and your skin I have not felt,
though I have been so very near.

Your hands,
I know they are kind —
they guide me to safety.
Your heart, a lion,
it roars with love and devotion.
It is the king of your life,
it is my guiding light.

A million eyes I have seen,
but none have been yours.
Though the dream is never clear,
I would know you,
without a second glance,
that those eyes are your eyes
and I
have waited an eternity just for this chance.
