This past weekend, Harness Magazine experienced Art Basel at Miami Beach. The artwork exchange and show highlights remarkable artists. Amidst 70 degree sunshine, ocean time and art exhibitions on the beach, it was pretty dreamy.
Harness will certainly be returning next year. The experience was a little overwhelming for rookie goers, so next year we’ll certainly plan ahead! We weren’t able to locate an organized map or schedule, and found ourselves wandering around South Beach and Downtown areas, stumbling upon whatever art shows would find us.
So what did Harness discover …
First Stop: UNTITLED, ART
An international, curated art exhibition that focuses on balance, and contemporary art (all mediums). The show took place in a giant convention center on the beach. The exterior walls were floor to ceiling windows that allowed you to glance at art with an open ocean view. The exhibition was FULL of women artists’ work.
Big Mama by Cristina BanBan (acrylic on canvas, 2019)
Emerge from the Blush by Leah Guadagnoli (acrylic, canvas, pumice stone, insulation board, upholstery foam, and aluminum panel, 2019)
Second Stop: WEAM Wilzig (World) Erotic Art Museum (Permanently in Miami)
The only museum in the U.S. devoted exclusively to fine erotic art. Filled with goddess depictions, women in history and activists. The museum was thorough at covering ALL historic cultures from all over the world.
Third Stop: Wynwood Walls, Urban Graffiti Art District (Permanently in Miami)
Wynwood was full of local shops, local art galleries, young vibes and tons of energy. Every street’s walls were covered in murals and graffiti artwork. A must-see area if you visit Miami. Lemurs, snakes, Levi’s installations, celebrities and famous artists casually standing with their murals and work to answer questions and celebrate with admirers.
Tatiana Suarez, 2016
“Star of metamorphosis” by Claudia La Bianca
Miami ocean water is CLEAR. Nightlife is wild. Our hotel (Delano South Beach) had DJ Khaled and G-Eazy downstairs, and every club was packed with notable DJ’s like Diplo and Idris Elba. So much in just three short days, a few walking blisters and no sunburn!
