For 22 years, I have been surrounded by a number of astoundingly successful women. These women have been my coaches, bosses and mentors. They have inspired me to hold myself to a higher standard, which has made an enormous impact on my personal and professional life. I’ve been graced with these women, to look up to and to be surrounded by their words of wisdom.
These marvelous role models have shown me that an “it-girl” is not just some glamorous film character made up to be a confident, stylish and wealthy superhuman. However, a woman of true “it-girl” status is one who is well-prepared. She is motivated, driven and fearless. Thus, I have decided to discuss some of the habits I have learned from these amazing women in my life. These habits will hopefully help you when it comes to crossing tasks off your list and making your goals become realities, just like the it-girl you always envisioned.
THEY NEVER SKIP THE GYM OR THE BED
By the time you get home from work, your heels are off and you are ready to hit the couch to rest up from the busy work day. Stop! It may be easy to sit down and put your feet up, but skipping out on exercise is something you’ll regret. Fitting in any type of physical activity that keeps you moving will help keep your mind at ease. You will be able to eliminate those high stress levels and refresh your body. The same thing that goes for exercise is also true for sleep. You need your rest! Getting a full night of good, quality sleep will boost your performance the following work day! Your body will be ready for sleep after that workout too!
THEY ARE MINDFUL OF THEIR TIME
“Time keeps on tickin’, tickin’, tickin’ into the future.” Okay, so that might be an old song lyric from the Steve Miller Band, but it’s true. Time is valuable, so grab a planner. Schedule out your day to make sure you are not always rushing to get somewhere. By crossing tasks off your daily to-do list, you will feel accomplished. You’ll become a multi-tasker in no time!
THEY ARE RISK TAKERS
You have to get out of your comfort zone to achieve great things! Set your goals and expectations high and don’t be afraid to fail. You will fail sometimes, but you will get back on the horse and keep going to achieve that said goal. After achieving, you will look back at all of the times you had to pick yourself off the ground and realize how much you learned. For me, an enormous goal of mine was to run a marathon before I graduated college. There were many days when I wanted to give up, but I just envisioned how happy I would be after I crossed that finish line and got to call myself “a marathoner!” I even cried after I received my medal!
THEY ACT LIKE A LADY
It-girls are kind and grateful. They are dependable! They understand that being sincere is a characteristic that is hard to find nowadays. Therefore, it is one of the most wonderful characteristics to possess. It makes an impact on others’ lives and it affects any important relationship you will ever have! Many businesses hold their employees to a higher standard and hold this statement as a core value; “Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card and how you leave others after an experience with you is your trademark.” I am reminded of the quote anytime I meet a new person. After your first interaction, how you leave that conversation is how you will be remembered!
THEY ALWAYS WANT TO BETTER THEMSELVES
You always hear of people saying they peaked at a certain time in their life, however, the key to never peaking is to never stop growing. Constantly learning and challenging yourself are ways to better yourself. Go and travel the world and see new things. Run a marathon and teach yourself how strong you can really be. Open your mind to new things and always be curious. Diversify your life and become friends with people of different backgrounds. Don’t limit yourself and learn to love different cultures. Surround yourself with people you can truly be yourself around and who encourage you to become a better you!
By taking these few habits into mind when you are planning out your day or even meeting a new person, you will soon be on your way to achieving that “it-girl” status. Go forth and achieve your goals, ladies!
