i don’t want a world without rainbows

i am done hating myself,
done locking myself away in a closet;
silencing myself for the sake
of keeping the peace—
you use your religion
as a weapon against anyone you don’t like,
calling it love instead of what it truly is:
hate, judgment, discrimination—
if we are all made in God’s image
you cannot claim i am not His,
and just because you don’t understand me
doesn’t make my existence wrong;
i have a heart full of love and light
rainbows belong to people like me—
they don’t belong to anyone who doesn’t
have light because without light
there could be no rainbows,
and without rainbows the world would be a less colorful place.
