Love Is The Message–For Mammy

Close your blue eyes, don’t forget

We made a promise to meet inside our dreams

Pretend like I’m there holding your hand

I’ll hold on to the way that feels

You’ve always been the strong one

You’ve always carried all the faith

You find the colors in the black and white

You’ve always seen the best in me

Your words have found their place

In between and through my heartbeats

So even when we’re far apart

My mind thrives on this mentality

Your soul deserves all the good in this world

This life with you has been a blessing

So now I know, make the moments count

And love is how we leave our message

You live among the mountains

And the courses ever green

The brush strokes, the movement of the pencil

The faces of those traveling

The journey of one, set out to create more

They say true love finds a way

For so many reasons, we grow and we change

But this, with us, was meant to be

You’ve always been the strong one

You’ve always carried all the faith

You find the colors in the black and white

You’ve always seen the best in me

Your words have found their place

In between and through my heartbeats

So even when we’re far apart

My mind thrives on this mentality

Your soul deserves all the good in this world

This life with you has been a blessing

So now I know, make the moments count

And love is how we leave our message

Like ink on skin, you are permanent

Like ink on skin, your love is permanent

Like ink on skin, you are permanent

Like ink on skin, your love is permanent

Your words have found their place

In between and through my heartbeats

So even when we’re far apart

My mind thrives on this mentality

Your soul deserves all the good in this world

This life with you has been a blessing

So now I know, make the moments count

And love is how we leave our message

This life with you has been a blessing

And love is how we leave our message

Author Bio: My name is K.K. Foster, and I am a lyricist and artist from New Jersey. I am also a full-time teacher at a private school for children with language-based learning differences. I always say that the number 10 is my lucky number because when I was 10 years old, I had lost 10 teeth, my soccer number was 10, and my older brother taught me how to draw Calvin and Hobbes; my introduction into drawing. When I was about 12 years old, I started to really get into writing poetry. My older sister was a beautiful writer and rarely did I get to read her work, but when I was lucky enough to, I was blown away by her ability to describe feelings and emotions, painting these pictures in my mind as I read. I wanted to write like she did. Around the age of 14, I started trying to write song lyrics. I have always loved to sing and listen to music because it has always evoked so much emotion for me. Writing lyrics has been a way for me to express myself, either when I wasn’t sure how to verbalize what was in my head or my heart, or when I just wasn’t ready to express something. From the first set of lyrics I’ve ever written, I’ve always said that my biggest goal in life is to have one song out in the world that people can listen to. I wanted to write something meaningful that people could connect with. I love music and I love the way a song can make me feel. I wanted to make others feel something with my words. I love love, and I write what I feel, think, or see. I have self-published a short book of my poetry, lyrics and artwork, entitled “The Art of Me” through Lulu Publishing. Over the past several years, my focus has been on writing lyrics and drawing the heart and eyes, two things that fascinate me. I’ve done some small drawings for people throughout the years, and it has always been an amazing feeling when someone likes something I’ve done. In addition, I’ve co-written two songs with an acoustic duo, one is on their YouTube channel, and titled “Happy.” These songs have been performed at bars, weddings, and on the local news. I created my Instagram page to make connections with singer/songwriters, and I am currently collaborating with a few musicians to write some original songs.

Like music, art has always been special to me. It is this wordless opportunity for me to share my thoughts and feelings, or to simply relax and escape for a few moments. I love pencil sketch and ever since I was young, that has always been my medium of choice. I am always looking to be challenged or inspired by other’s artwork, and appreciate the many talents that are around this world. If there is any way to really describe what drawing and writing meant to me, I’d say these areas of my life are not only my outlets, but my heart and soul on paper. I wouldn’t be who I am without my family and friends, and the ability to write lyrics and draw. I am forever grateful.
