MEET HIM IN THE MESS: HOW TO MOVE ON FROM HEARTBREAK

JESUS

I am not going to tell you to stop crying. Failures, disappointments, regrets and breakups hurt. Ready or not, it can overwhelmingly suck you in a box of unspeakable misery. And to fathom or reminisce how or why it happened just makes it worse.

The world will tell you that “time heals wounds.” It will also urge you to cure your wounds with runaway road trips, social therapies, alcohol or drugs, self-help books, self-love prescriptions and even immediate love-search.

Sure, these may fill the void. But my dear one, you are more precious than rubies. Your wounds do not deserve mere band-aid solutions; it needs a deep-seated healing not from this shallow world but from a compassionate Healer.

His name is Jesus. Go ahead, meet Him in the midst of the mess. He will not invalidate you or what you are going through. In fact, He is with you right at this moment, embracing you at your worst and silently wiping away your tears. He understands your broken heart. And apart from being able, He is very much willing to pick up the broken pieces. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalms 147:3).

The evil one will deceive you with, “You are defined by your past and mistakes.” It will also convince you to dwell on the hurt to get past closure. The evil one wants you depressed and isolated, buried in anxiety, resentment and self-dependence. I know because I have been there, too. After a series of demoralising heartbreaks, I tried to find hope from a sinking ship. I tried to find life, purpose and direction on my own and from the world, but I could not. My dear one: You do not need an advice or method on how to move on from a heartbreak; you need a loving Saviour.

His name is Jesus. Go ahead, believe and receive Him in the midst of the mess. He says in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” When Jesus suffered and died on the cross, He was thinking of you and me. He who is without sin bore all our shame, guilt and even hurts to give us hope and freedom. On the third day, He rose again — assuring us even more that He is the only way, truth and life. If that is not unconditional undeserved love, I do not know what is.

The world will tell you to hide the pain and to not be open about your weaknesses. The world will also tell you to fake a smile and pretend that everything is fine. But God? That’s not what He wants for us. He promised us that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He tells us that we can be open and honest to Him about what we are going through because His grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9).

His name is Jesus. Go ahead, talk to Him in the midst of the mess. He will not push you away. In fact, more than anything, He wants to have a personal relationship with you.

The Lord, who created you, says this: “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done (Isaiah 43:1-2, 13 NLT).

Go ahead, dear one. Open your heart and life to Jesus right now. Let Him in… even in the midst of the mess.
