Over the Edge

The instrumental beats surrounded the car

Hands tapping against the steering wheel

Feet moving with the beat, synchronized

The car’s movement brought life back into my soul for those 4 minutes

My heart racing; but for once not due to fear and worry; this time, the beats were my soul lighting up with life

I took in the last minutes of the sun, as nowadays it sets before dinner

Life now, so different from then, even just a year ago

Things like meeting friends for a drink, traveling to a new city, even seeing family for the holiday had all seemed so easy

Moments of excitement, happiness, freedom seemed as if they were all at our fingertips

It was those times, and so many more that seemed to give me that same feeling of pure, lifted joy just as the moment in the car did

I now sometimes ask myself, ‘Why didn’t you take more chances when you had the chance?’

Living within the unknown would be easier if we planned to live amidst the uncontrolled confusion and wonder, right?

Maybe just knowing how much life would change would make it easier?

I seem to be asking myself these, and many more questions on the daily as I (we, the world) sit and wonder what life will (hopefully) soon be like

But for now, I will take the chances I get to sit in the car on a cold, sunny afternoon right before sunset, and blast instrumental music, as it truly fills my soul with joy, life, and the sense of hope that I need
