Overcomer

For so long you have suffered.
You have suffered in the worst way humanly possible- in silence.
The weight of every burden leaving you with the sick feeling of shame was too heavy upon your lips.
You could not bring yourself to cry out to another soul about your misery.
So instead, you cried to yourself.
Every night. Night after night.
Until you thought there would be no more tears
Until you dared to believe your heart could no longer break.
But, it did.
Over and over again. The vulnerability of your kindness was taken advantage of.
You were left empty, shaking in silence while the one who walked away hummed a joyful tune after they took what they wanted.
You blamed yourself.
You accused yourself of being the one person you thought you would never be.
You questioned how you got to the point where you were so desperate for someone to love you that you would do anything they asked of you in fear of them leaving you.
Alone. You never wanted to be alone.
Alone? You were never alone.
In every night, an angel was close by.
Watching. Protecting. Guiding.
You are on the other side now.
You look back with confidence because you know it was never yourself you needed to blame.
It was never someone else who you needed love from.
Now, with all the courage in your heart
And all the strength in your soul,
You can write these words.
You are an overcomer.
You are beautiful.
You are loved.
You are worth more than the words people say and more than the joy they steal from you.
I’m so thankful you have found your voice.
This time you will never have to suffer in silence because help is here if you would like to accept it.
You will never be silenced again.
You will liberate others as your voice echoes into the dark,
Into hallow hearts.
Through the pain, strength will rise,
Use your strength to lift others out of the same ocean you yourself were once drowning in.
The darkness will only hide you if you let it.
In every moment you chose to fight for yourself,
You fought for every man, women, and child who are or once were in your shoes.
So keep fighting.
You are an overcomer.
You are beautiful.
You are loved.

I am a New Jersey based poet who aspires to share my story through poetry and prose focused on faith and my journey with depression. I have overcome many obstacles and I believe everyone has a story to tell, even if they haven't found the words yet. I hope my words can inspire others to believe in their purpose and to find strength to climb the next mountain.
