Preparing For The Future

We can pretend it’s not coming or keep our head in the sand, but the future will come just the same, bringing with it change, decisions, challenges and new opportunities.

If we do not take today to prepare for the future, we run the risk of missing out on all the chances tomorrow will bring. Preparation is the gateway that allows us to achieve our goals, the key that gives us access to the change we so desire.

A new year means a new opportunity to prepare ourselves for the lives we want, to build habits that will equip us for success. We work hard every day, but we don’t always work with intention. Preparation requires us to know what we want, to have an understanding of what direction we need to go. In order to prepare for the future, we need to keep one eye on what’s coming while fully inhabiting the present.

Are you ready to begin preparing for the future you want? Here are a few tips to get you started.

Know what you want.
If you have no idea, here are a few ideas of where to start. Begin with your values. What do you want out of life? Where do you see yourself in five years? Make a list. Experiment. When you get a general idea or direction, then you can begin moving toward your goal.

Set goals along the way.
Even before you reach your final goal, there will be milestones. In preparation, designate milestones so you can see your progress. Give yourself the satisfaction of celebrating those steps.

Get a travel buddy.
When we’re preparing for the future, we never know what to expect. Hardship comes, some changes are more difficult than others. In all the uncertainty, it’s important that we know we’re not alone. Having someone to walk alongside us through those changes will make all the difference as to whether or not we make progress.

The new year is the perfect time to reset and begin preparing for the future. Your future is bright. Invest now to prepare yourself for things to come.

Be well,

Gretchen
