Soldier

As he wakes up he puts on his costume

The mask to hide the emotions

The cape to save the world except himself

He learned his whole life to carry all the weight on his shoulders no matter if his back shatters

He fights wars, learns to shoot, he learns how to get stronger to defend himself from attackers

Meanwhile his costume is wearing out

The uniform he used to wear proudly now are pieces of fabric sewn together with no value

Toxic masculinity became his prison

The handcuff society used to keep him imprisoned

They are no guidebooks in life that taught him how a man should express his emotions but only to keep it within himself

His glass was over flowing with the emotions that he kept in a casket buried

He wants to scream but turned it into humor, going to the gym for a couple hours,

Playing 2K until he falls asleep, getting lit on a the weekends with his boys

Every raindrop in the thunderstorms aren’t compared to the teardrops he shed in his room

Then he wakes up once again wearing his uniform wearing his mask and cape holding his breath

waiting for the day he can finally breathe fighting the war being a soldier

Hi my name is Katharyne Martina, I’m Dominican and Dutch. I’m a Poet and also an Aquarius. Writing has been an escape for me the last couple of years. When I’m in a place of darkness, gratitude, anxiety, happiness etc. writing always come into play. Writing is only time I’m the most transparent because that’s when my feelings are turned into art through words. Red my pieces by following on IG @KATHARYNEPOETRY
