Still I Rise

My mother is my hero and is so incredibly talented. She is an amazing artist, and I have always looked up to her and her creativity. I actually took a lettering class with her, for her birthday last year, and ever since I have been drawn to lettering and creating art through powerful words. This canvas “Still I Rise” comes from my absolute favorite poem by Maya Angelou. It is all around my house, my classroom, and even tattooed on my wrist. I, myself, continue to rise, and wish to instill the same sense of eagerness and leadership in young women of this country and the world!

Author Bio: I am a teacher in the city of Detroit. I like to think that I am a Woman, then an Activist, then an Educator in that order. It has become my mission to educate young female leaders to smash through glass ceilings, and I have started doing this with other amazing women through the curriculum I developed called Young Female Leaders. Love, @teachlikeagirl
