Dear body…

You and me,

A long and chaotic partnership,

Sometimes allies,

Sometimes foes.

I can’t deny the hatred I’ve felt,

But now I understand—

You, dear body, are my armor,

The one that keeps me strong and alive.

You are a part of me,

But not all of me,

For I am much more than a shell of flesh.

Once unable to even glance at your reflection,

Now I sometimes linger in front of the mirror to admire you,

And I realize how far I’ve come

By loving you a little more each day.

The path ahead is still long

But someday,

I will love you with all my heart

Just as you are.
