Can you share with us the story behind your creative project, “Flavors EP”? What inspired you to create it?

Flavors EP is my debut into the music world. As a child I’ve always loved music starting back from when I was in primary school. I would pretend to make songs off of my kiddie piano and would sing karaoke daily with my father. Of course as I got older, I became shy and really didn’t believe I could really do anything with music (the mind could be the worst sometimes lol) when I began college I really just couldn’t resist the urge to try. I began making demos in my bedroom and fell in love with love with the experience and making music. I decided one day that I’m just going to try and FLAVORS EP is the result of me just really believing in myself and expressing myself through music.

You mentioned that the EP represents the end of an era and the start of a fresh journey. Could you elaborate on this transition and how it influenced your music?

When I began the EP I released 3 singles in the span of 2 years. Drip (my manifestation song about owning your power/sexuality) , How Could I? (a song about loving and choosing yourself in a relationship/removing yourself from a bad relationship) , and Flavors (a play on words on my name Lexi Lemonade) . Not too long after I had major life changes and became pregnant with my second child. I took a long hiatus from making and releasing music. When I was ready to get back into it (naturally) a lot has changed.

I was ready to get back into the scene but felt I needed a reintroduction into the music world. I decided to release the music I was working on before the hiatus as an EP with two previously unreleased tracks. It’s awesome because it’s a celebration of the work I did in the past while giving me a clean slate  for the music I’m going to release next! It’s an exciting new beginning. I think you will definitely be able to hear the growth in my next project.

What were some of the challenges or struggles you faced while working on this project, and how did you overcome them?

Well this being my first project, it was also my first time going to a recording studio. I had to overcome all the fears I had before and get over the sound of my voice. It’s really weird hearing your voice being recorded for the first time, it’s like is that really how I sound? Everything matters in the studio, the vibes, the people you’re working with! It took me a while to get it right but once we got the ball rolling it was awesome. It’s amazing seeing your vision coming together.

As for the visuals, it’s hard because there’s so much I wanted to do but just didn’t have the budget. I ended up doing a lot by myself. I actually have a BTS video via YouTube (LexiLemonadeMusic) that shows how I built the backdrops/props etc for the visualizers. I recorded a lot of the videos and did a lot of the Photoshoots by myself.  I’m hoping for the next project I can collaborate more with others while I continue to grow as an artist!

How has your journey as an artist helped you discover your most authentic self? Can you share any pivotal moments or realizations along the way?

Being an artist requires being honest with yourself in so many ways. I had no interest in trying to follow what’s popular or what’s trending. I wanted to create music that felt true to me and who I am as a person, down to the songwriting. My most personal piece How Could I? Was based off experiences I had in the past. I really wanted to capture the emotions I was feeling at the time and thought process behind my decision-making. As for the production most of the songs I self produced for the demo and then took it into the studio so that my engineer/producer and i could build off of it. I’m a vivid dreamer and wanted to include elements of this in my music, hence a lot of the atmospheric production and harmonies throughout the tracks!

What lessons have you learned throughout your career in music that you believe are important for aspiring artists to know?

Follow the feeling, your true North. I don’t think your intuition or gut will steer you wrong. A lot of people won’t understand and some people won’t want to understand why you do what you do. It’s so important to learn to trust and believe in yourself before anyone else does! Stay true and consistent, you will grow and get better and better as time goes on.

Can you describe the role of creative freedom in your artistic process, and how it has shaped your music and overall vision?

Creative freedom is imperative to being an artist. Being an artist you’re introducing someone into your world. We gave birth to these songs and these ideas. It’s something we imagined in our minds and was able to transform it into something we can hear and experience and eventually see.

What advice would you give to other musicians or creatives who are navigating their own paths and striving to stay true to themselves?

Allow yourself the freedom to experiment with different sounds etc when making music! There is only one you so it will be hard for someone else to do what you’re doing when you are just doing what feels good to you. Don’t feel pressured to do what’s popular. The artists I look up to the most are the ones who have stayed true to themselves even when it wasn’t popular.

How do you see your music evolving in the future, and are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re excited about?

Well I am definitely introducing new and exciting sounds, while also going back to some of my roots / influences growing up and incorporating it into my music. It’s still very early in my career but I’m hoping to be able to collaborate with other artists this year and other creatives!

How has living in New Jersey influenced your artistry and the themes explored in your music?

It’s very different from where I grew up (South Florida). I love the culture here, just feels very alive. There’s always something to do and to experience here in Jersey, especially being so close to New York City . There’s also a lot of learning opportunities here (museums etc), although not in Jersey The MET museum in New York City has a really cool Egyptian exhibition which I would visit often before I got the chance to actually go to Egypt!  You’ll see a lot of the themes in my music and visuals. I love the Egyptian Goddess of Music & Motherhood (HATHOR) which I feel connected to and you’ll see hints of this in my visuals as well.

Lastly, where can listeners find your EP, and what message do you hope they take away from experiencing your music?

You can find my EP on streaming platforms!

Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora , Deezer , SoundCloud, YouTube etc. If you enjoy please be sure to follow on there as well. It means so much to small independent artists and allows you to stay in the loop for future drops!

I hope to spread love, the importance of self love, respecting yourself and your boundaries in relationships and really just owning and stepping into your personal power.
